How to rest in Baldur’s Gate 3?
You can take a Long Rest at the camp in Baldur’s Gate 3. Short Rests can be taken outside of combat in the game world. These rests require different resources and restore your party to varying degrees. Considering that you can take two Short Rests before a Long Rest, I’d suggest using Short Rests first.
Short Rest in BG3 explained
Short Rests don’t need resources and only replenish a moderate amount of health. Depending on which class you pick, you can also replenish some other resources. For instance, Warlocks can replenish some of their spell points with a Shong Rest. At higher levels, a Bard can restore Bardic Inspiration charges with a Short Rest too. Short Rests let you rest anywhere so use them whenever you need them. If you’re not terribly wounded, you can also get to maximum HP with a Short Rest alone.

Fighter’s Second Wind and Action Surge. Battle Master’s Superiority Die
Monk’s Ki Points
Paladin’s Channel Oath charges
Sorcerer’s Tides of Chaos
Warlock’s spell slots
To Short Rest in Baldur’s Gate 3, click the campfire icon at the bottom of the screen. A closed eye with two blue dots will indicate that you have two Short Rests until the next Long Rest. Classes like the Rogue don’t have any resources to recharge on a Short Rest.
Long Rest in BG3 explained
You need 40 Camp Supplies to take a Long Rest. The party can use a lower amount but this will not completely refresh your party’s resources. You won’t get two Short Rests for the next day. Your characters can get Camp Supplies from chests and loot scattered across the world of Faerun. In addition to that, you can buy them from vendors.
Here’s what a Long Rest replenishes in Baldur’s Gate 3:
Party health points (hit points)
Party spell slots (like Wizards and Sorcerers among others)
All resources that a Short Rest would recover
To perform a Long Rest in BG3, click the fire icon next to the turn-based mode button at the bottom of your HUD. This opens up the campsite menu. The crescent moon icon is the Long Rest. Once you’re in camp, you can interact with the campfire or one of the bed rolls. Note that Long Rests also progress some quest storylines.
For instance, if you ignore the burning inn at Waukeen’s Rest after the Risen Road in Act 1, a Long Rest will have consequences. Long Rests also help you have conversations with Baldur’s Gate 3 Guardian. At camp, you can also figure out how to respec in Baldur’s Gate 3 from Withers.

How do I rest in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Click the campfire icon at the bottom of the screen to rest in Baldur’s Gate 3.
To rest in Baldur's Gate 3, click on the campfire icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen, to the right of the action bar and the Turn-Based Mode button. This will bring up a sub-menu with three more icons: Short Rest, Long Rest, and go to Camp.
It is helpful to take short rests in between combat or when many of your party members are low on hit points. You are able to take a short rest twice per day. Taking a Long Rest will reset your available Short Rests back to the maximum of two.
To take a short rest in Baldur's Gate 3, hold down the Campfire icon on the right of the user interface, marked above. That'll bring up two more icons and the one at the top, that looks like an upside down sunrise with two blue dots, is the one you press to take a short rest.
You can long rest as often as you'd like, provided you have the resources. However, long rests move "time" forward and may affect the outcomes of quests, the availability of NPCs, etc.
For the most part, spells like Mage Armor that have long timers like 8 hours have been turned into "until long rest" in the game. Meaning you cast it in the morning and it lasts until you go to camp for the end of the day. Other spells with shorter timers do count down in real time and in turn-based.
Twice per long rest, the party can take a short rest, which restores the following: Hit points up to half of their maximum (rounded down)Uses of weapon actions. Bards of level 5 or higher regain their Bardic Inspiration charges.
Additional Ki Points are gained with each level that the player takes in Monk after starting with two points at Level 1, meaning that multiclassing in BG3 could reduce the overall potency of their primary kit. These are regained on a Short Rest, making planning around their use crucial for success in battle.
Should you Let Astarion Bite You? Letting Astarion bite you is an easy way to get approval with him. The simple answer is yes, as the only downside is gaining the Bloodless debuff, while Astarion gains the Happy buff and his approval rating of you increases.
Once per Long Rest, when you finish a Short Rest you can choose to regain 1 Spell Slot of this Level. Cyan Number /*. Whenever you finish a Short Rest, you regain 1 Spell Slot of this Level.
Once you've spoken to Withers, he'll appear back at your camp whenever you take a long rest. If a character has died, you can pay him a hefty sum of gold to bring them back. The good news is that they will also appear in your camp, so you don't need to worry about traipsing all the way back to their corpse.
At least 40 Camp Supplies (80 for tactician difficulty) worth of food and/or drinks need to be consumed in order to take a Long Rest. More supplies can be used at once during a Long Rest but it does not give any additional benefit.
You need 80 camp supplies for a full long rest. If you don't have enough, you only get half your spell slots and no short rests. Though it really isn't difficult to manage.
For any non-summon spell that lasts until Long Rest, the caster does not need to be in your party once you leave camp as long as the spell does not require concentration. Therefore, you can easily cast this spell on any party members you plan to use while leaving the caster back in camp.
Clicking Short Rest will automatically use a Short Rest while selecting Long Rest will make you confirm your selection. When playing using a controller, pull the Right Trigger and select either Short Rest or Long Rest from the bottom of the radial menu.
