Um Liebe und Hass, um richtige und falsche Worte, geht es in dem Film „Die Geträumten“. Im Zentrum stehen Ingeborg Bachmann und Paul Celan, die sich im Nachkriegswien kennengelernt haben. Deren Briefwechsel bildet die Textgrundlage. Die dramatische, rauschhafte, aber auch unendlich traurige Liebesgeschichte zwischen Bachmann und Celan beginnt 1948, als sie 22 und er 27 Jahre alt ist, und sie endet mit dem Suizid Celans 1971 in Paris. Für Ingeborg Bachmann ist es die große Liebe ihres Lebens, und doch hört sie nie auf, in ihm den Fremden zu sehen und ein bisschen wohl auch zu fürchten: einen Juden aus Czernowitz, dessen Eltern im Holocaust umgekommen sind, während sie selbst nichts dergleichen erlebt hat. Sie liebt ihn und stößt an Grenzen, an ihre eigenen und an seine. Es geht nicht immer nett zu in diesen packenden Briefen. In einem Moment des Zweifels fragt sie: „Sind wir nur die Geträumten?“
